The American Gem Society is the country's preeminent jewelry trade organization dedicated to consumer protection. Founded by Robert M. Shipley and several other leading jewelers and gemologists in 1934, the American Gem Society is a not-for-profit trade association of over 3,500 jewelers, retailers, suppliers, individual titleholders and affiliates.
The Jewelers of America (JA) mission is to increase consumer confidence in the jewelry industry by advocating professionalism and adherence to high ethical, social, and environmental standards. A condition of membership in Jewelers of America is an annual commitment to the Code of Professional Practices.
